There are so many benefits to walking in nature which improve both our physical and mental health. It’s really difficult to narrow it down to a few, but here are my top five:
- Boosts your mood – studies show that spending time in nature improves how we feel and helps reduce negative energy and emotions.
- Improves physical health – walking will strengthen muscles, can ease joint pain and boost our immune system, as well reduce the risk of some health conditions and diseases.
- Reduces stress and anxiety – the sights and sounds of nature can produce positive emotions and give an overall sense of wellbeing.
- Stimulates creative thinking – being outdoors can inspire us to focus on our surroundings, leading us to think more clearly and improve concentration and creativity.
- Helps you sleep better – being more active improves quality of sleep, allowing us to fall asleep faster and get more restful night’s sleep.
One of my favourite places to walk is on the coast. I find the sound of the waves, the smell of the sea air, quality of light, big sky and amazing views so uplifting.
