Vaccination Clinics – Green Health – Watch While You Wait!

Summary

We placed a 10 minute video on loop at the vaccination clinic in Aviemore, encouraging people to get outside into nature and promoting Think Health Think Nature.

Introduction to the activity

The Pfizer vaccination clinic requires people to sit for ten minutes after the vaccination prior to leaving the hall. We projected a local film on to the wall of the gymnasium that gave people something to look at while they waited. At the time leaflets were not permitted to be distributed so this was felt as a good way of getting the message across and directing people to our website. We also erected pop up banners and feather flags. We used three video clips merged into one film that was played on loop throughout the day. The film was tailored to appeal to a local audience.

During the Astra Zenica Vaccine clinic days we placed the video where i could be viewed by those lining up and waiting for there vaccine as there was not a dedicated seated area for patients at this time.

Impacts / outcomes

The local High Life Highland Leisure Centre was used for the vaccination clinics in Aviemore. As everyone will at some point be invited to attend a clinic this was a unique opportunity to sell our messaging on the benefits of Green Health to everyone in the community over the age of 18. The video has been seen by hundreds of people over the course of six clinics this summer. We hope this can be replicated in other vaccination centres across Highland.

Key learning points

  • Work with individual facilities managers in advance, so that they know what is being done and why
  • Advise the local medical practitioners delivering the vaccines of your presence and the reasons why in advance.
  • Get a list of proposed clinics and times for your local medical centre
  • You need a projector and laptop set not to go to sleep. You may have an alternative screen service in some locations.
  • Set video to silent.
  • Set up in advance of the clinic start
  • Wear a mask at all times while setting up
  • Work with vaccination clinic volunteers who will be on hand to ensure the video keeps running throughout the day
  • Know the vaccine clinic end time and remove equipment promptly – the hall may be used for other purposes later that day.

Future Plans

Our plan is to encourage other vaccine clinics to do the same, particularly in the Autumn when people will be invited to return for flu jabs or booster vaccines. High Life Highland are a member of the Highland Green Health Partnership and as such we will target facilities managed through them to begin with. We will send out video content to anyone who may request it. Some areas may wish to customise short videos with local content.
