Nature Prescriptions – an invitation to connect with nature
The course has been created by NHS Highland in partnership with RSPB to accompany the distribution of nature prescriptions by health professionals. We recommend you take this course prior to ordering our nature prescriptions resources.
The aim of this resource is to:
- Understand the benefits to health from connecting with nature for yourself and the people you work with.
- Gain an overview of some of the research evidence that underpins this work
- Reflect on your own feelings about nature
- Know how to prescribe nature to your patients and clients using the Nature Prescription calendar of seasonal suggestions and activities.
The course takes 30 minutes to complete and is available for free through TURAS. To use this service you will need to create an account on the Turas website.

Delivered by NHS Highland Health Improvement Specialists, Ailsa Villegas and Kate Thomson – this online seminar introduces the complex interconnections between public health, climate change and biodiversity loss and last approximately 1 hour.

Breaking Barriers to Reduce Inequalities
Public Health Scotland has launched new learning hubs dedicated to Breaking barriers to reduce inequalities and Demonstrating your impact on health inequalities. The hubs are primarily for those in public service roles (including health, social care, education, housing, police, fire and rescue services) across all sectors. It is also useful for everyone who works in public service as it will support action to reduce inequalities and improve population life outcomes.
The course is free and can be easily accessed by logging in, enrolling or creating an account on Public Health Scotland’s Virtual learning environment.

The Scottish Government is establishing a community of practice on racialised inequalities in health and social care.

Mental Health Learning Bites
The resources on this site have been co-produced by NHS Education for Scotland and Public Health Scotland to support the implementation of Scotland’s Public Health Priorities for Mental Health, Scotland’s Mental Health Strategy 2017-2027, and Scotland’s Suicide Prevention Action Plan – Every Life Matters.
They will support staff across the public sector and beyond to develop the knowledge and skills needed to promote good mental health and wellbeing across the whole population and to prevent mental ill health, self-harm or suicide. It is also about improving the quality and length of life for people who experience mental ill health and addressing the inequalities people can face.
