We are delighted to welcome Isabel McLeish who is the new Health Walk Coordinator for the Think Nature Health Walks project at HTSI.
Isabel is originally from Lochalsh on the west coast, and now lives in Inverness. Isabel has experience working on climate and green health projects in the third sector and is also an artist and forest bathing guide.
“I love being creative and spending time outdoors, whether that be walking, gardening, camping, or wild swimming! We have such beautiful landscapes and amazing wildlife throughout the Highlands, and walking is a fantastic way to enjoy these things. I use walking to get about, whether I am on my way to work, or popping along the shops. And I also walk for my own enjoyment and wellbeing. I love walking along Ness River in Inverness, as well as exploring all the different local woodlands we have close by.”
About the Think Nature Health Walks project
The Think Nature Health Walks project supports a network of walking groups throughout rural Highland. Our walks help you to connect with nature, meet likeminded people and socialise, and to enjoy being more active outdoors. Walking in your local green space is a great way to support your health and wellbeing.
All walks are led by trained volunteers and are safe, fun and free! You’ll find a warm welcome and a walk at a pace and length that suits you, whatever your ability. Our walks often finish with a cuppa, and we regularly include nature, creative and heritage activities as part of our walk programmes throughout the year.
Benefits of walking
Our walks are ideal for people who enjoy walking with others, and the walks are local, low level and accessible, so you don’t need any special equipment.
Walking is a great way to connect with nature and appreciate local wildlife, meet likeminded people and socialise, get some fresh air, and improve your overall fitness and wellbeing. There are so many benefits to walking, such as improved mood and sleep, increased strength and self-esteem, and reduced pain and anxiety.
Walking is an enjoyable and accessible way to get active for those recovering from ill health or who are managing a long-term condition. Our walks can support those with a whole range of physical and social health conditions, so if you have any questions, please get in touch.
Walking also helps us to reduce our impact on the environment too, by using our cars less, reducing air pollution and helping us deepen our connection with nature.
